MEET THE THERAPIST
Peter Wong

Clinical Director and
Registered Psychotherapist

At the Therapy Grove, therapy is relentlessly empathetic - so clients feel safe to be honest with their most hidden thoughts and suppressed emotions. In therapy, Peter listens, truly listens - so you can get clear on what’s going on inside, understand the good reasons for why you do the (sometimes unproductive) things you do, and then to make meaningful, lasting changes.

Peter is also a couples counselling specialist who has received extensive training in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), an effective therapy that has helped countless couples get unstuck from conflict and rebuild a strong emotional bond.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Will sessions be covered by insurance?
Yes, most extended health benefit plans cover psychotherapy services provided by a Registered Psychotherapist. We’ll charge your credit card at the end of each session and provide a receipt that you can submit for reimbursement. It’s always a good idea to check with your insurance provider about your specific coverage.
  • How many sessions will I need?
There’s no one-size-fits-all answer. It depends on your goals, the nature of what you’re working through, and your readiness for change. That said, many clients experience meaningful progress within 10 to 12 sessions. Others choose to continue longer-term to deepen their work, strengthen relationships, or maintain momentum in their growth.
  • What’s better—virtual therapy or in-person sessions?
Both have benefits, and research shows that virtual therapy is just as effective as in-person sessions for most issues. Virtual sessions offer convenience and flexibility, while in-person therapy can feel more grounded and personal for some. The “best” option really comes down to what helps you feel most present and supported. We offer virtual sessions to clients all over Ontario, and we provide services out of a beautiful clinic office in Hamilton. If you're in the area, please ask us about our in-person therapy services!
  • Can we have sessions during evenings or weekend?
Absolutely. We offer flexible scheduling, including some evening appointments, to help make therapy work with your life. Availability can vary, so feel free to reach out and we’ll do our best to find a time that works for you. At the moment, our clinicians are available during weekdays, and on Sunday mornings and Tuesday evenings.
  • What if I don't "click" with my therapist?
That’s okay! A strong connection is one of the most important parts of therapy. If it doesn’t feel like a good fit, we’ll help you find someone who might be better suited. Be picky! We want you to find a suitable fit, even if it's not with us. Moreover, we don't want you paying for a full therapy session just to realize it's not going to work, so we offer a free initial consult call to give you a chance to do a vibe check.
  • Do you offer couples therapy?
Yes. Couples therapy is a core part of what we offer. Whether you’re navigating communication challenges, recovering from betrayal, or just looking to reconnect, we work with couples to help rebuild trust and deepen emotional connection.
  • What does family therapy look like?
In family therapy, we focus on strengthening the connection between parents and their children—because that relationship is often the most powerful tool for healing. Using an approach called Emotionally Focused Family Therapy (EFFT), we support parents in learning how to respond to their child’s big emotions, repair after conflict, and feel more confident in their role. Sometimes children are part of the sessions, especially when it's helpful to practice new ways of relating in real time. Other times, we work just with parents to create change from within the family system. Either way, the goal is the same: to reduce distress and build a more secure, responsive relationship at home.
